Coastal Chic Decor — Tips

How To Think About Coastal Chic Decor in 2025

Growing up in California, we didn't think consciously about the home decor in the beach homes all around us. So after planning a trip to the Spanish coast for a beach house I was surprised to find myself feeling the coastal decor there was so much less overplayed than it is in the states. I love coastal decor, but I don't want the big signs that say "Life is a Beach" all over my home. I love clean lines and lighter colors, but I don't want the whole home to scream this is a beach house.

One way to do this is to replace those big, kitschy signs with more elevated statues. They don't have to be overly abstract, expensive, or grandiose. They can just mimic the natural environment all around them. Decorative coral sculptures are a great example of an better way to do chic coastal decor in a beach home or beach condo.

What Coastal Chic Decor Should Not Be

Great coastal design is not filling a room with seashells and anchors. it’s about easy, natural layers that make a space feel fresh and inviting. The best coastal looks come from subtle textures, soft colors, and just the right mix of accessories. A few blue accents, a woven basket, or a light wood console can bring in that effortless beachy feel without going overboard. If you’re painting with blues, tone it down with a hint of gray. it keeps the color from feeling too bright and gives it that soft, sun-faded look that works in any space.

Coastal Chic Decor Done Right

Coastal decor works best when it feels effortless and unfussy.  Just the right mix of natural textures, soft hues, and a few well-chosen details. It’s not about packing a space with beachy accents but about knowing what to leave out. A light wood console, a textured vase, or a nautical rope mirror can do more for a space than a room full of themed decor. Less is always more, and the best coastal spaces feel open, airy, and lived-in without trying too hard.

Coastal chic design should still be cool and modern. For example, this marble shelved console has an elegant metal black frame and a glass shelf in the middle. It enable us to create spaces that are coastal yet contemporary.
